Beware the stare of Mary Shaw,
She had no children, only dolls,
And if you see her in your dreams,
Be sure you never, ever scream!
Dead Silence will have you jumping. It's an eerie, dark movie about an old woman ventriloquist named Mary Shaw (Judith Roberts), who was persecuted when kids went missing 'way back when. So now she's exacting revenge on the village people for cutting out her tongue.
It starts in present day in the apartment of young married couple Jamie and Lisa Ashen (Ryan Kwanten and Laura Regan). A big package is left at their door, and all I can say is, Jamie should NOT have opened it and taken out Billie, the ventriloquist's dummy.
Those things are spooky! And Billie's eyes and head move and turn of their own accord ... or IS it of their own accord!?!
After Lisa's death in the first 15 minutes of the film, Jamie spends the rest of the movie digging into his hometown's past – Ravens Fair, just across the bridge over there. He discovers things … LOTS of things, things best left unsolved. Donnie Wahlberg plays Detective Jim Lipton, who suspects Jamie of murder.
Two guys behind me – grown adults – were jumping at the startling scenes, so you KNOW it's a scary movie. Oh, and make sure you go to the bathroom before the movie, or you'll be sooorrrryyyyy!
The movie does NOT have a happy ending.
Dead Silence was not a big hit, and in fact, it only recently surpassed its production budget of $20 million.
